María missing Archie...

Coming to an end

The book of our love story is coming to an end. On September 15 I finished writing it, and I've been revising it since then. I revised part 3, then part 2, and now I'm revising part 1. Part 4 will be harder than hard, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

What I wanted to say is that part 1 is so beautiful, remembering the love we had is like reading a fairy tale. I am copying now a paragraph from less than four weeks into the relationship.

I have no idea how the conversation emerged, but it marked another milestone in our relationship. As we were looking for a spot in the parking lot, we found ourselves talking about the nature of our relationship, and he asked me how serious I was. I was dreading to hear from him that that was too serious, and that he wasn’t so serious. But I replied sincerely:

- “I am serious. What about you?”

- “Me too,” he said, and we hugged.

Months and months after that, I told him how nervous I was about his possible response. He had feared the same thing.

With that weight off of our shoulders, we continued our Fourth of July expedition. He took the Mexican blanket and another one to fight off the cold temperatures of the San Francisco night and bought the tickets. Then we walked to the platform to wait for our train. I have an incredibly beautiful close-up of Archie on his seat. The beauty of it doesn’t come from his good looks, but from the expression of his face, irradiating innocence, happiness, and trust. If I had had that picture to look at before the serious conversation, I would have never feared his response.
